How do I record from my Apple Watch?
Tap REC on the Watch, talk, tap Stop, pick an outcome. The Watch sends the audio to your iPhone in 30-second segments and the phone uploads the finished recording.
The Roonly Watch app lets you record a door without taking your phone out. The Watch records with its own microphone and hands the audio to your iPhone, which uploads it. Apple Watch support is iPhone only.
Setup
Install the Roonly iPhone app first and sign in. Then open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll to Roonly, and install it on the Watch. The Watch needs the phone within Bluetooth range and signed in. If your phone signs you out, Watch recordings have nowhere to go, so sign back in on the phone before a shift.
The Watch screen
The Watch has one screen. At the top, when you are not recording, is a toggle with two modes:
- Watch. The Watch microphone records a single conversation.
- Shift. The Watch acts as a remote for a shift that is recording on your iPhone.
Below the toggle is the round record button marked REC, and at the bottom a small footer with today's counts.
Record a conversation
- Choose Watch mode and tap REC. The Watch shows Starting, then a red microphone and a timer.
- Talk. You can lower your wrist. The Watch records in 30-second segments and sends each one to the phone as it completes; the timer shows how many segments have been sent.
- Tap Stop.
- On the Recording Complete screen, choose an outcome: Not Interested, Lead, Sale or Follow-up. Tap Add Name to enter the prospect's name.
- Tap Save. The trash icon discards the recording and deletes every segment from both devices.
The phone assembles the segments into one file, shows Saving Watch Recording briefly, attaches your GPS location, and uploads. A Follow-up outcome is saved as Callback on the phone. Watch recordings arrive in History like any other conversation.
You can start recording even when the phone is momentarily out of reach; segments queue on the Watch and deliver when the connection returns. The only time the Watch refuses is when the iPhone itself is already recording, in which case it shows "Already recording on iPhone".
Discrete mode
While recording, tap Discrete. The Watch face switches to a plain clock showing the time and date, with a small red dot in one corner. From a few feet away it looks like a normal watch. Two small buttons at the bottom edge exit discrete mode or stop the recording. Stopping always leaves discrete mode.
Shift mode from the Watch
The Watch cannot start a shift. Start it on the iPhone, and the Watch switches to Shift mode on its own. The screen then shows SHIFT RECORDING, the shift timer, and how many outcomes you have logged.
- Tap Log to record an outcome right after a door: Sale, Lead, Callback or Not Interested, with an optional name. Roonly attaches that outcome to the conversation it detects at that point in the shift.
- Tap End Shift to end the shift on the phone. There is no confirmation on the Watch, so tap carefully.
Haptics and errors
The Watch taps your wrist when a recording starts, stops, saves or fails. If something goes wrong, a short message appears under the button, such as "iPhone not connected", "Transfer failed" or "Failed to start recording". Most of these clear once the phone is back in range and the Roonly app has been opened on the phone.
