How does shift mode work?

Start a shift once, put the phone away, and end it when you are done. Roonly records all day, then splits the audio into separate conversations and scores each one.

Shift mode is for reps who do not want to touch the phone between doors. You start one long recording, knock all day, and end the shift when you are finished. Roonly finds each conversation in the audio, scores it, and files it in History as if you had recorded it on its own.

Start a shift

On the Home tab, under the Record button, tap the card labeled All-Day Shift Mode. The app asks Start All-Day Shift? and explains that it starts a long background recording. Tap Start Shift.

Some companies turn on Shift Button Mode, which replaces the Record button with a Shift button that starts immediately without the confirmation. Either way, the Home card changes to Shift Recording with a LIVE badge and a running timer.

Starting a shift needs a network connection, because Roonly creates the shift record on the server before recording begins. If you are in a dead zone, move until you have a bar of signal and try again.

During the shift

Tap the Shift Recording card to open the Shift Dashboard. It shows a RECORDING badge, the elapsed time, Outcomes Logged, Chunks Saved, and a note that conversations will be detected and analyzed when you end the shift. The back arrow returns to Home while the shift keeps recording.

Put the phone away and work. Recording continues with the screen locked. While the app is on screen, Roonly saves the audio in 5-minute chunks and starts uploading each one right away; while the phone is in your pocket it keeps recording into one longer file and saves it the next time you open the app. Shifts are limited to 10 hours.

If you wear an Apple Watch, you can log an outcome and a prospect name from your wrist during the shift. Those logs are attached to the conversation Roonly detects at that moment.

Interruptions

A phone call, FaceTime or Siri takes the microphone away from Roonly. When that happens, a lock-screen notification reads "Roonly recording paused. Another app took audio. Open Roonly to resume your shift." Open the app and you see a Recording Interrupted alert with two choices: Resume, which saves what was captured and starts recording again, or End Shift.

If the phone restarts or the app is force-closed, the shift still shows as active when you reopen Roonly, but it is no longer recording. Tap End Shift to upload the chunks that were saved, then start a new shift.

If Roonly sees no new audio or check-in from your phone for a long stretch, it sends a push notification titled Check your Roonly shift asking you to open the app.

End the shift

Open the Shift Dashboard and tap End Shift. A confirmation shows the duration and outcomes logged. Confirm, and the app returns to Home with a banner reading "Uploading shift, N of M". Keep the phone connected until you see Shift uploaded successfully. If some chunks fail after all retries, the banner reads "Upload issue, Tap to retry".

A shift that captured no audio at all is marked failed with a reminder to check microphone access in Settings.

How Roonly splits the shift

Processing starts once every chunk has uploaded. Roonly runs voice detection over the whole shift and treats a silence of at least 45 seconds as the boundary between conversations. Stretches of speech shorter than 10 seconds are dropped. Each remaining segment becomes its own conversation, stamped with the time it happened and, when available, the location from your shift's GPS trail.

Each segment is then transcribed and scored the same way a single recording is. Segments with no real exchange, such as you talking to yourself between doors, are discarded and never appear in History. Outcomes and prospect names are inferred from the transcript, unless you logged them from the Watch.

Processing can take a while for a long shift. Conversations appear in History as they finish. If a shift ends and nothing shows up after an hour, ask your manager to check the shift on their end before recording it again.
